The IMANA R&D Institute, a meeting point for innovation in nanoscience and nanotechnology

Comprising 12 research groups from the UMA, it is holding a workshop at the Rayo Verde building.

The UMA has become a hub for innovation in nanoscience and nanotechnology this week, hosting the first workshop organized by the University Institute for Materials and Nanotechnology (IMANA), which opened yesterday at the “Link” space, located in the Rayo Verde building on the Teatinos campus.

The goal of this high-level scientific event is to showcase the work of the IMANA Institute outside the university setting. Another of its objectives is to further strengthen the synergies among the dozen or so research groups from the UMA that make up the institute.

The inaugural event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Research and Scientific Dissemination, Pedro Maireles, and the Director of IMANA, Professor Elisa Vereda from the Department of Analytical Chemistry. Both highlighted the significance and future potential of this nascent institute.

The inauguration also included a tribute to Professor Ramos Barrado—who passed away in 2022—a driving force behind the project and a key figure in the founding of the Institute.
